Domaine Jean Tardy

Domaine Jean Tardy is a small family estate in Vosne-Romanée, six hectares worked by father and son. The vines are old — the Chambolle parcel was planted in 1929, the Nuits Bas de Combe and the Echézeaux Les Treux in 1937 — and every wine is a single climat, bottled on its own.

The range runs the length of the Côte de Nuits: village wines from Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Comblanchien, a Nuits premier cru, Aux Argillas, and the grand cru Echézeaux Les Treux, next to Grands Echézeaux. Two regional wines, a Hautes-Côtes from Concœur just above Vosne and an old-vine Passetoutgrain, complete the book.

In the cellar the fruit is fully de-stemmed, with a large share of whole berries kept intact, then given a cool pre-fermentation maceration and a light hand during fermentation — few punch-downs. The wines age sixteen to eighteen months in barrel, a quarter to a third new for the villages and up to eighty percent for the grand cru, and are racked once before bottling.
